Brodzinski is the poster boy of what an offensive defenseman should be. He has good foot speed, is very agile, and he can wheel and deal with the best of them. Brodzinski possesses soft hands which allow him to maneuver around the opposition with ease. Much like his older brother Jonny, Michael possesses a cannon of a shot, although his shot selection needs a bit of fine tuning as it has a tendency to get blocked or miss the net.
Brodzinski needs to be more consistent with his play. When he’s playing well he is defensively responsible and a force offensively, but when he’s off he takes on the roll of a completely different player, as he tends to play out of position and allows himself to get outplayed by inferior players. Hopefully Brodzinski’s defensive instincts will develop as he gains experience.
This past summer Brodzinski was a member of the U.S. U-17 Five Nations championship team. He scored one goal and added two assists in five tournament games. Brodzinski turned down an invite to play for the USDP so he could return to Blaine for his junior season.
